Re: Wetland Restoration?
I haven't done restoration, but a few years back we did a job where we had to construct wetlands. We had a developer that wanted to build a residential development. In order to do so, he had to make more wetlands. There were some there already near a pond. We moved about 10,000 yds of material to meet the same elevation as the breast of the overflow for the pond. We had to buy special wetland seed and seed the bottom. The DEP inspector said that it is the nicest job that he has ever seen.

It's not technically challenging work, though it's typically wet and dirty. From what I've seen a couple pieces of small, low ground pressure excavating equipment, a couple of 3" pumps and a gaggle of laborers will get most of this kind of work done.

Re: Wetland Restoration?
From what I have seen is that there is only a set amount of money available and they (government) already know what the unit costs are for everything from cut and fill to laying different sizes of pipe. You have to find a way to make it work. The thing you have to keep in mind is the strict tolerances on the levees and borrow areas/pits.

Re: Wetland Restoration?
Wetland restoration and stream restoration is our specialty. Most of our contracts are for government agencies. In the past three years the number of wetland restoration projects we bid has declined (at least the $75,000+). As far as making money (that's my job - number cruncher) some have been very profitable, others have been big loosers. If you aren't a "qualified" minority with a government agency and don't have any interest in qualifying, I would think there's lots of private work to be had.
