Re: Water Tables

Re: Water Tables
I am with Day. Having a well driller come in and driving in some casing for sumps is better than well points. How bad of ground water are we talking here ?

Re: Water Tables
there are some variables. are you dealing with a saturated cohesive soil? typically what we will do is go in and create a french drain around the perimeter of where our excavation is going to be, and get pumps running in the drain a min. a week before we start. you can "wick" out a lot of moisture that way. you may end up overexcavating your hole, and putting in some clean 1/2"-3/4" rock and stick a pump in the low part of the excavation to mop up the last bit of water on the bottom.
if you're dealing with a static water table in granular material, we prefer digging wells if our gravel formation runs deep enough. we'll get the screen of our wells a min. of 8-10' deeper than the depth of the excavation. we prefer this way because you have far fewer things to work around. if the gravel formation is shallow, we'll jet in sandpoints which i frickin hate. they're a lot of work putting in, taking out, maintaining while they're pumping.

Re: Water Tables
I don't know what a sandpoint is.
any hints if your going to have water issues. when I go to sell a renovation liner change or resurfacing, I look for these hints. 1 how much foundation of house is exposed. 2 any weeping willow trees. (i once heard they are water hogs) 3 do they have sump pump in basement. 4 my knowledge of the neighborhood. (in towns I do a lot in I just know if there is water. oh and when I can see the farmington river lol ray |
