Trucking
I was just thinking about the diverse group of people we have on this Forum. It struck me that I don't really ever remember anybody coming on who brought up truck related questions. I know most have posted that they own a dump truck as convenience but no one has 3 or more it seems and is into trucking.

Re: Trucking
we have a 3 axle belly dump, 2- twin screw ford dumps, hate all of em, we hire trucks whenever possible. hard to get anybody w/clean CDL, and that won't beat your stuff to death.

Re: Trucking
IN THE PAST YEAR. i HAVE HAD 6 DUMPTRUCKS. 5 SINGLE AXLES AND 1 TANDEM. I brought the tandem with hopes of getting work hauling . When i realized that guys with tandem dumps dont make any money i sold the truck. I cant see how somebody could make a living with a tandem dump truck. Guys around here get like $45-$50 per hour for a tandem on dirt work. How the hell can you make money doing that? As far as the single axles go, i sold 3 of em but i still have 2. I plan on getting a quint axle sometime this summer and put a driver on it hauling asphalt or something. looking for a truck that haul 23 tons or more.

Re: Trucking
im in between on a new truck, i have a 6wheeler and hire out tri's when ever i need them,, but id like to have a larger truck so its either a six wheeler w a lift axle for my stuff only or a tri axle that i might be able to sub out when i dont need it ???
here a pic of the six wheeler i am looking at tri's seem to be a break even business unless you haul your own product and then its the product that is a real profit maker im still looking for trucks and have not really decided yet

Re: Trucking
We have 1 tri-axle. If we need more, we have a few buddies that we hire.

Re: Trucking
Well if it's trucking you want, I can surely call on my buddy Mike up in MN. His family has one of the larger trucking companies that broker out their trailers (bellies, and side dumps) and has a half a dozen tri's of their own. I believe they have 35 belly trailers and 15-20 sides. Once you talk a while with Mike....He's all you'll ever need for the trucking quota on theses boards!!! They also own and co-own several sand pits around the twin cites, a Cat 345, Cat 330, Komatsu 650, Cat 966, and I believe 4 or 5 dozers. This guy would make you sick of talking about trucks!!!!!!!

Re: Trucking
being part time i haven't spent the money yet for a truck. i also run compact machinery so i just tow with a 1 ton. i plan on a single axle when i go full time. been researching trucks for a year now. it has gotten to the point i am sick of them without even owning yet. so far i have a couple good contacts that haul whenever i need them. this has worked out great so far. being new in the bussiness i like using other dump trucks because they travel around a lot of sites. throw them a bone and hopefully it will come back. also haven't heard many people say they make a lot on trucks. if my equipment was heavier i would definitly have one for towing.
good luck |
