Truck Question ?

I went to a dealer about 2.5 hours from me that advertises all kinds of trucks for sale. He has mostly stuff that belonged to Utility companies from down south. Most things were pretty clean and without too high mileage. The prices he gave were consistently lower than I thought. The ones I looked at struck me they had rust in places I had not expected to see it. None of them had any carpeting of any kind. Something I saw or read all of a sudden made me think "Katrina" could these trucks have been under water? Has anybody heard of what happened to all those vehicles down there?

Sounds like a certain number of them ended up 2.5 hours from you.

Re: Truck Question ?

If they are! You were sharp to pick up on the carpeting, that's a red flag.
might be a good idea to unscrew an interior door panel and look in with a flash light. Do a vehicle search

Nick,
Did it sound like it had a drawl when you tried starting it?

Oh man, I pity the people that buy those.

Ask for a Carfax report.

Re: Truck Question ?

If they are 'work' trucks, they probably came from the factory with vinyl flooring-not carpet.

Re: Truck Question ?

Bought one years ago. Rubber mat was standard. GREAT TRUCK, great deal.

I think the utility companys order them with rubber mats. That's my preference for a work truck. Take a hose and wash it out.

Re: Truck Question ?

Denick, I constantly watch Salvage Direct.com and they are offering several work type trucks however they are sold with a branded title and require you to provide a "crush" certificate within 6 months of purchase. In short, you can use for parts but you can't rebuild for sale or titling. The crush certificate assures you had the truck destroyed after cannibalizing but in my opinion the parts were still subjected to the same water.

They are even offering lot sales with 5-6 trucks per lot. Not bad if looking for a truck bed but most other parts would be questionable. I'm sure there are some shady characters out there trying to sell them to unknowing customers.
