Trackhoe Rental

I have rented a 330 hitachi and a 290 volvo both newer. My problem is they run like a 220. How can i turn the hydraulic power so i dont tell them to pick them up? What pressure should they be at? Thanks

Re: Trackhoe Rental

yeah, it's a piece of cake, just go back to your valve bodies, to your port relief AND your main relief valves, back off the locking nut, and screw them down JUST as tight as you can get them, you absolutely won't believe what you can lift once you do this....don't worry about the little bit of hydraulic oil seeping by the cylinder packings, or the weird noise the pump is making while you operate it. have fun!!!

Re: Trackhoe Rental

I rented a Ryder box truck one time that performed like a dog sled. I realized that they had a bolt in the floor, under the gas pedal, that kept you from being able to press it the whole way down. Took that bolt out and it was like a completely different truck. I think many things you rent have little things done to them to keep people from getting the "full experience" from the equipment.

As an owner operator with a 4-year degree in education, I feel that I qualify on both accounts of being able to understand as well as read. Now that we have that clarified, it seems to me that the proper thing to do is notify the rental yard that their machine seems to be down on power. They may not be aware and need to have it checked. Ultimately, I doubt that any yard would "turn down" a machine below factory specs as that would not be beneficial nor safe in my opinion. Hydraulics are much like engines in that their truly is a sweet spot where power, proper cooling, and lubrication are at their optimum. Lower RPMs on an engine are often as detrimental as high RPMs etc. Get my point? Now on to my original comment of the operators skill. I have seen guys spinning the tracks on their dozer with the throttle wide out and complaining about not having enough power. All the while I am in a lower gear, lower RPM pushing a full blade and getting twice as much work done. The operator skill matters in my opinion, and as an owner operator I am sure you understand that. No need to be smart, but my guess is that you are one of those guys who likes to do things their own way, and my advice is to keep renting equipment if you feel the need to max out every machine that you run. You'll go broke in this business running your equipment on the ragged edge. Good luck with your project.

My thoughts excatly, when the rental yard get a machine delivered, they put their logos on it and send it out. There is no way they are going to tinker with it in regards to performance.
