Technique

Watching my operator today I saw some things he was doing that I had taught him were not good technique for backhoes and excavators.

When you learned did someone tell you proper technique?

Do you work in the effective working range of your machine?

Do you pay attention to bucket filling cycle?

Do you keep your machine level and stabile?

Do you set up how you dig something so that you are not wasting time in swinging to far?

Bucket filling cycle, When the bucket penetrates the soil the stick and curl of the machine are used to fill the bucket quickly and completely and the bucket is lifted out of the soil as the filling is complete.

I had watched a few guys digging in a bailing situation and even my man they penetrate the soil and keep bringing the stick in when the bucket is full and drag it through the soil even when they are raising the bucket. A lot of wasted time.

When you learned did someone tell you proper technique?
--Yes, my dad would always stop me and explain to me what I was doing wrong and why things had to be done that way.

Do you work in the effective working range of your machine?
--I try to get maximum production out of it without tearing up the machine.

Do you pay attention to bucket filling cycle?
--Of course, that is how you make money. When digging, I keep the bucket curled, cut into the bank and curl the bucket lift the boom so that the hydraulics aren't squealing.

Do you keep your machine level and stabile?
--Yes, I will take a few buckets of dirt and throw under my tracks to keep me level.

Do you set up how you dig something so that you are not wasting time in swinging to far?
-- Always try to if there are no obstructions like wires, house or trees.

When you learned did someone tell you proper technique? Basicly self taught by trial and error, still don't know what I'm doing

Do you work in the effective working range of your machine? It was to slow so I jacked up the injection pump.

Do you pay attention to bucket filling cycle? Are you suppose to?

Do you keep your machine level and stabile? What fun would that be?

Do you set up how you dig something so that you are not wasting time in swinging to far?I always go around 2 revolutions before I empty the bucket and alternate directions every other bucket.
Nick, I'm just joking!

Joe,

I'll see if Rino gives lessons and he might give a break to a fellow Contractortalk.com contributer.

I was thinking about you Nick. What time are you up and about on weekends? I don't want to get up there and find you in your P.J.'s.

Re: Technique

Joe,

Did you get an operators manual with your machines that had any operating technique explained? (seriously please)

Some manuals I saw years past had some good basic information.

By the way, yes I have received many manuals over years and review them on a weekly basis. Would you like to sign them out Nick?

TOOO much caffiene Today Joseph.

When you go to post doesn't it say how much room you have?

They're someplace. I copied and pasted the address and I saw the pic's. I didn't think you were going to be so photogenic. I think your career in show biz is on the brink of happening.
