Yes.
You do have to be using the mileage deduction and not the actual expenses deduction of course, and you are talking about being self-employeed right, not an employee?

I'm not sure about this but, are you saying you work FOR someone as an employee? If so, then..... NO
Like Mike said, if you are self employed and use vehicle for business purposes, then YES.
To be truely legal though, You must keep a mileage log of miles driven for business only. Some people will drive their work vehicle to the kid's soccer game, this "legally" is not to be deducted.

If you advertise with a permanent sign on your car/truck,,and you are self employed,,,you can take all the mileage no matter where you drive,,,,

You may want to check on that one, I think the thing is that you have to drive to the office first, then to the job, mileage only counts from the office to the job, not from your house to the job. Now thats what my CPA said last year, as you can tell I have filed for an extension for this years taxes. Good luck, but if I am wrong, please anyone can chime in.

This is exactly(almost word for word) what my advisor told me 10 years ago when I started. In my case my office is about ten steps out the door of my house. So I was told I can take mileage from my home to job and anywhere in between as long as it is job related. That is when I was told to be sure and use a mileage log. I reset the tripmeter every morning when I leave, then write down the mileage when I get home.
Trips to the grocery store DO NOT count(legally)!
