Switchable Mini Controls
Hey guys, I've rented quite a few minis over the years and generally they're switchable between two control patterns. I've gotten used to one pattern, and I've always wondered what the two patterns signify. I've guessed that one is a backhoe control and the other is for an excavator. Is this right? If so, which is which?

Re: Switchable Mini Controls
One pattern is the pattern for backhoe controls and one is your ISO controls or excavator controls. Around here the backhoe controls on an excavator are considered old school because most companies have since switched to ISO pattern. I personally like to operate ISO but I can run them either way.

Re: Switchable Mini Controls
Thanks for answering a dumb question. Here's another. If my left hand left or right makes the cab spin, and up and down raises and lowers the boom, which pattern is this? (Right hand extends arm and curls bucket.)

![]() But seriously, that would be considered ASE or my Machine refers to STD. The ISO control: Left, side to side = swing Left, front to back = dipper arm out/in Right, side to side = Bucket curl/dump Right, front to back = boom lower/raise At least that's what my book states. |

Re: Switchable Mini Controls
in my neck of the woods the standard (old school) controls are referred to as "john deer" controls.
the iso controls are referred to as "cat" controls.

Re: Switchable Mini Controls
Hey ther,
One is set for Caterpillar joy stick control and the other is to confuse you. I have been operating for years and was on a project with one of these minis. After hours of excavating footings for a small builging we took lunch. During lunch my laborer switched the controls around, I did not know it could be done then or how easy it was to swith them around. I spent the first half hour thinking I had gone insane. Everything I knew about operating was gone. I was pissed when I saw him laughing his ass off on the other end of the project. Moral to the story, stick to what you know, unless its an old case wheel tire backhoe. |
