Stuck In The Middle

Well the 4th falls right in the middle of the work week, so what's everyone doing for the holiday?
1) Working through it.
2) Taking Wed. only off.
3) Taking Mon., Tues., Wed. off.
4) Taking Wed., Thurs., Fri. off

I'll be doing #4, hey you gotta have a little time off sometimes. :laughing

Note to Mods. Go ahead and move this if needed.

Re: Stuck In The Middle

My wife and little girl are taking the train to Arizona on Monday, so the 4th, weather permitting, will be a long work day....we are so far behind, I have no choice.

Well, we would work on the 4th, but people would complain about the noise. So we will just take the 4th off.

Re: Stuck In The Middle

Joe, and what reason will you come up with for taking 11th, 12th, 13th off?

I had another contractor ask me about what days we were taking off yesterday. I think with the odd ball year people seem to be having some people need a break. Others want to push through and get an extra days work.

The "4th of July" is a day to stop, think and celebrate the founding of America! If you do work, purposely stop your machine for 5 minutes and "THINK" about all that we have, say a prayer of thanks, and go home at the end of the day and turn the job off and have some fun with family and friends in the context of the freedom you have to be able to do that. That little bit is way more than a majority of people in this country will consciously do on the 4th.

Re: Stuck In The Middle

Nick now you're going to have me putting my thinking cap on to see what I can come up with for the 11th, 12th, and 13th. Maybe I'll have to take a road trip up state to see what a buddy of mine is doing.

Re: Stuck In The Middle

Definitely taking the 4th off. We are hosting a get together, combining the 4th with a late birthday celebration for my daughter. We can see the town fireworks from our backyard.

As far as work the other days, I plan on working if there is anything for us to go on. But I do something work related every day whether in the office or out turning a wrench or getting things prepped for the next day..... I am always working.

Re: Stuck In The Middle

Unfortunately for me. The first real job the company I'm working for gave me is a tight deadline job. A very busy intersection reconstruction and widening with 500ft of street rehab to the north and south of the intersection. I have 21 days to complete the first phase (south 500ft of road), 7 days to complete the entire intersection, and another 21 days to complete the north end roadway.......We break ground with the reclaimer Thursday JULY 5TH!!!!!!!!! AGGGGG!!!!!

Oops, my bad.
As I was typing my earlier post I intended to add the line "If any of you folks want to stop by, please do. We have plenty of ice, over plenty of beer, to wash down plenty food!"

But I type so slow, my mind wanders and I forget what I was...

Re: Stuck In The Middle

I will be working. I am unsure if my guys will be. I am far behind. One client does not live at the house and the other is on vacation. I will try to just do hand work.

I am considering taking friday, saturday and sunday off.

Re: Stuck In The Middle

Not long ago, we discussed days and hours worked...I am getting positively tired of working my weekends....and I hate working holidays, won't ask my guys to do it....but I can get a lot done in just one day. Since my family will not be here, up early, and work until dark. I will catch up with them next weekend.

Joasis time spent with your daughter, not to mention your wife is precious, something that you can never replace with money. I've been there and done what you're doing.............not worth it. Probably not to late to get another train ticket.
