Steep Slope?
Is 50% slope too steep to cut a pad on? Its 26.6 deg. I think. How would you go about doing it?

Re: Steep Slope?
Pat,
Seems to me a 50% slope would be 22.5 degrees, but anyway you slice it thats one steep lot! Joe |

Re: Steep Slope?
22.5 deg? I got this slope conversion chart from DOT fed. highway admin. it says 26.6' deg. for 50% the whole slope % thing throws me. like it says 10% = 5.7 deg. anyone got an explanation of slope %?

Re: Steep Slope?
Pat,
Here's how I figure it. When I hear percentage I think of a hundred. Therefore 1 hundred feet out and 1 hundred feet up creating a right triangle = 45 degrees , therefore 1 hundred feet out and 50 feet up right triangle =22.5 degrees. Just using a hundred to show my point. Right or wrong I've always done it this way and never had any problems. You have to remember you're working with dirt here and not cutting miters for crown molding . You don't have to split hairs. Unless you're building a high way coast to coast starting at each end guess it would be nice to meet at the same place mid point. But working an individual lot whats your point? If you're doing any kind of pipe or drainage work you set the laser for the appropriate % and follow the beam you don't even deal with degrees. But hey I do believe you can teach an ol' dog new tricks, keep me posted. Joe |

Re: Steep Slope?
Thanks Joe, I understand it now. In my head 100% slope should = 90 deg. but with your explaination I see that the 90 deg is constant and the 45 deg is 100%. so i guess a cliff is 200%. ok i can picture it in my head clearer now. well the lot is snowed in till spring. Its a family members, he's a devopler but I think he will give a newbie like me a chance at it.
