If given a plan, a bench mark and two known points can you layout your own excavation.

Denick,
Most certainly can. Do you need any other information or help, not sure by your post if you need info. to do it or if you just want to know if we know how.

Beware, not all given benchmarks are correct.

Rino,

Thats very true, thats why in addition to the benchmark given by the surveyor we also have the site engineer give us a reference point that will not change or mischieviously be altered, such as grate on c.b. or manhole cover.

Truer words have never been spoken. In fact, it's good practice to never survey anything critical without multiple reference points by which to cross-check.

Well, I think so far the ppl that have posted in this thread know what they are doing.

I build retention basins with a single benchmark and a few stakes.

An individual who can maintain grade and move material in the fastest and safest way without beating the machine.

I would rather have someone who is slower and takes care of the machine than someone who rips and tears.

Re: Site Layout

Someone that understands what they're looking at when they are looking at a siteplan, can establish correct grade, maintain it, and thinking a couple of steps ahead as far as placing material so as not to impead your next phase of the job so you don't have to move material needlessly, but hey if you're getting paid by the hr., move it around some.
