Septic System

i stepped in a sink hole in my yard, when i peeled the turf back i could see 3 pipes , 2 were about 8 inches a part as if they were connected ? then the other one looked like it was 18 inchs from the other side (coming in like a t) all stopping in this area ? this was after the d box ( by the plan )sre these pipes supose to be connected ? can i just fill this back in with sand or gravel then topsoil ?its been very wet around here too.weather wise

Fred,

Yes this is the place. You might not have hit a septic expert yet. Most guys go to bed before you posted this and they leave for work at 5 - 6 am. They don't always have time in the am to post a good reply.

Would it be possible to post a picture? It's not the kind of answer that you'd want to make a mistake on.

Re: Septic System

does your plan indicate that you may be looking at a junction or distribution point. what type of pipe are you looking at i.e. size , color, perforated or solid, etc. ?
in my opinion, dont cover it up. it sounds like it could be a failed T or junction in the pipe at a dist point causing a short circuit of one or more sanitary field lines. this may cause the "sink hole" you mentioned and a multitude of other unseen nasty problems with your system.
call your local (city or county) ground water protection dept. person for an inspection. be prepared to call in a licensed SSD fellow after that.
i hope i'm wrong,,,,,,,,, good luck.

Fred,
Hard to tell without seeing it, sounds like you could be looking into the second d - box, could it have gotten broken? How far away is this from the known d - box that you know of?

Re: Septic System

Fred,
Also if that was the last trench it could have been connected without a d - box using a "t" fitting, question is what happened to it?
