Septic Field Driven Over
Hi all,
I'm building my first house with a septic system. My septic guy marked off the area for the filed lines (they haven't been installed yet). The house is on a hill and there 's not a lot of area that could be used. Anyway, my framers have been framing this week and I just noticed today that they broke the marker tape and have been driving over this. They said it was just their pickups trucks a tool trailer and they didn't have any where else to turn around. There are a couple of ruts because of the rain. My spetic guy is worried about soil compaction. Do you all think this will be a problem when we go to do the septic system? Thanks,

Re: Septic Field Driven Over
How big of an area did they mutilate in comparison of the actual septic area?

Re: Septic Field Driven Over
It's about 10 x 40 area that has ruts. Codes require us to lay out 2x what we need; one for backup system. He marked off 780 linear feet of future lines. So this isn't a big deal? BTW, I'm the GC; this is a spec house.

Re: Septic Field Driven Over
Unless this system is some sort of very shallow drip type system, driving over it will not compact the soil enough to make any difference what ever.
Does he not have to excavate to make the installation? PS. Welcome to the site.

Re: Septic Field Driven Over
Have it tested NOW! Small trucks shouldn't cause any problem but repeated use might. Been there and $600 short in '85.

Re: Septic Field Driven Over
If it hasn't been installed yet you have nothing to worry about. Driving over it will not harm a thing. I'm sure you have the specs. for the system in hand.
