Re: Rock Removal
That is the input for the 1" line coming of the compressor it is a main ball valve that feeds an oilier that feed the percussion and a 2nd ball valve feed the blow out hole in the drill steel there is a pressure gauge to let me know the line pressure coming in to the tool. Like yesterday I had my laborers set the hose they put the 3/4" line instead of the 1" line I knew right away because of a drop in pressure.

Re: Rock Removal
Well the first day I started was Tuesday by the time I got every thing together and moved the machine we only got a half a day in. Yesterday we did pretty good until one of the bolt in the drill must have been left loose at the factory and backed out so I lost half a day. Today I took a diffrent aproch I sent my guys to a nother job and all I did was drill all day long I have enough holes so tommarow I can run the splitter and I have a John Deere 370 with a 8,000 lb hammer coming in to aleast get 20 - 25 % of the job done. While I have a man on the hammer and splitter I will be driling more holes

Re: Rock Removal
Nuc,
Nice video. How is the durability of the unit? Any signs of wear showing up? How do drill steels hold up? There's no down pressure on the drifter its only sinks by it's own weight? What is bit life like? Compared to hand drilling? What type bit do you use? How do you sharpen your bits?

Re: Rock Removal
Have a couple hundred hours on unit. Rebuilt the drill once there are some brass wear items that get replaced. Becides that once hose had a pin hole in it from rub up against the rock. Before runing water misting to the drill steel for dust control I was having problems snaping the drill steel at the conection with the bit. Now no problems. There is hydrauilc down pressure that is adjustable we run about 500 PSI but it changes for diffrent rock conditons you can tell by the sound of the drill hitting. I have yet to wear out a bit I have lost a couple do to the drill steel snaping and losing in the hole. We are using Mistubishi rock bits 1" rope tread 1 3/4" balstic button. I have yet to sharpen the bits there is no one loacal set up to do button bits only cross bits, I get a good deal on bits so it is not worth it to me to get my own sharping set up yet wich cost $1,000.00 plus for a air grinder.

Any effect on the excavator? Anything the drill won't do that you thought it would? Anything you've found you just shouldn't do? Noise problems?

Re: Rock Removal
No effect on drill. At first we where runing hot then relized had to much flow going to the drill so we turned it down and added a hydraulic cooler. It has worked great we are working on some fine tuning to stream line it a bit and get more range of motion. It would help if the excavator had anti drift valves on it so if drilling deep the position of the drill dose not move. It is noisy about 114 Db. There is nothing you can do about that and it is dusty if you do not add water while drilling. On a side note also you need just enought water to bind the just into larger particals. if you add to much water the just will mix with the water and become almost like cement and you have a hard time pulling the drill steel out because it binds. I use about 5-8 gal for 8 hr work day.

Re: Rock Removal
Good question! #2 is really looking for feature rocks for the yard.
I keep telling her that the local rocks are what go with our landscape but she insists on those Yankee rocks. How much would a pile cost? I have a buddy with a boat hauling business that deadheads south in the spring.

Re: Rock Removal
Most rock goes to Tilcon (24" -) any they crush it. The balance goes to who ever wants it A lot of guys like to use it for retaining walls I dont like it because the surface can be very jagged.

Re: Rock Removal
Teetorbilt if I have any jobs with rock on it as long as you can supply the transportation I will give you all the rock you want. But you have to rember that this stuff is very dense so it is very heavy.

Re: Rock Removal
What part of NJ are you in? I can take all the rock and fill you want to get rid of. I don't pay for the fill, but I would pay the trucking for the rock. E-mial me with an address and I will see how many trips I can get out of a day.
