So does that mean you used the blaster's quote to get the budget approved?

Re: Rock Removal

Well to truck the rock @ 550CY you have about 37 (Tandem Loads 15CY) @ $60.00 a load $2,200 plus trucking $3,000 (5 trucks @ $600). So removal will be $5,200 plus a machine to load trucks. The attachment for my machine will cost about $20,000 plus a 225 Min. CFM compressor. So about $32,000 for that set up. So I am left with about $17,800 in labor and consumables to the job. I will probably brake even on the job and have the attachment paid for. I have a job in the same town where a have to run 500' of sewer and 99% chance of hiting rock so that where I will make my money.

Yeah, 'break even'.

BTW, I take it the answer my question is yes. I'd send the guy a box of cigars for that quote.

Re: Rock Removal

To a demo guy, this looks like an easy fix. The rock that I see is all soft. A few horizintal bores and some light loads ought to do the trick.

Done properly, your neighbors should not plan on souffles at that time.

Re: Rock Removal

Hey Nac,
The attachment looks sort of nifty, post some more pics when you start using it and keep us updated on how well it works. Does all the operation of it take place from inside the machine cab?

Re: Rock Removal

Nac,

Thats a nice looking drill and compressor. Is the compressor just for blowing out the hole? when you use the drill.

The setup looks even better today since we were just splitting ledge for an electric line. Dragging a 55 lb drill, 90 lb jackhammer and the hydraulic splitter around in the rain and mud got a little old by 4 PM.

Re: Rock Removal

The compressor is for blowing out the holes and driveing the drifter. the mast rotation and drive is hydrauilc. Yes everything is done from the cab.

Re: Rock Removal

Another fun day on a rock pile. Rock was so hard and seamless we had to go to feathers and wedges to make time.

No! Joe, I'm not in the pictures.

Re: Rock Removal

Nick what is that on the end of your boom on the second pic. to the right.
Started drilling today seems to work pretty good also was running a #12Splitter today a lot easier when you have nice clean straight holes no broken fether and wedges. I think I might just have to buy the splitter too. Forgot my camera today in the other truck but will take some job photos tommarow. I was thinking to get brocures made up to leave with the rental yard and to hand out to other contractors what do you guys think.

Nick,
It's in the CT bylaws if you're gonna be a moderator you have to post your picture. I'd hate to think that if I passed you on the street I wouldn't even know you to shake your hand for the fine job you're doing on here. How about it? Posting your picture that is. You don't have to go to Glamour Shots, just a regular working picture will do, just make sure they get your front side and not your back side. Good job for one of your daughters. Say cheese!
