Boy, I've never heard of putting fluid in the tires of a backhoe. I know it's usually done for added weight (which I would think you don't want). The only other tire advice I can give for backhoes is stay with bias ply tires, never put radials on.

Do you have traction problems? Generally if you aren't having problems with the tires spinning then you wouldn't have any need for fluid in the tires.

I use to work on a farm when I was a teenager. I thought what we filled them with was to prevent damage to the tire. All I really remember is that they were a pain in the butt to change.

It really depends on the machine, some machines will have noticeably better traction and stability, especially while doing loader work. Now when it comes time to repair a tire, it's more difficult so it usually cancels out any benefits.

Fluid won't necessarily give you more traction if it's in your tires. What I learned on 2wd backhoes to keep from spinning the tires is ride your brake a tad when going into a pile and that'll keep the wheels from spinning. Just let off of the brake a bit when your breaking out with a bucket.
