Replacing Tee

I've been asked to bid a job that requires replacing a 6"x6"x2.5" tee with a 6"x6"x4" tee in a PVC water main. Question I have is do most people use some kind of a repair coupling etc. to help in replacing fitting? Any feedback is appreciated.

call scott at 605-432-4594 tell him you need 2-6" repair couplings...the type with no center stops in them. or DSG or whoever you buy stuff from. cut existing pipe about 18" away from existing tee on both sides...remove/trash tee...bevel all pipe ends. put new tee in with your makeup lengths of 6" and drive repair couplings all the way onto the pipes you put into the tee to fit the piece you took out...leave about 1- 2" short in length, so you have room to get it in there. lube the hell out of the pipe and gaskets, take a block of wood, and 2lb. hammer and bar....and tap the repair couplings back onto the existing main. just make sure you measure/mark where your gap is going to be on both sides so you know you have the couplings on the proper distance. same thing going to your 2.5"...you just may have to get some reducing bushings to get down to that from 4"

Re: Replacing Tee

Yeah, like day said. They make repair couplings that slide over the pipe. Like Day stated, you need to lube them up good and don't beat on the coupling with a hammer. If you eat your wheaties in the morning, you can slide it over the pipes by hand.

Re: Replacing Tee

Repair couplings are no longer allowed in the IPC ,there must be a stop because too many people are not aligning the repair coupling properly.

Re: Replacing Tee

The easiest way to do it is using Dresser couplings the rubbers and everything are with them they are easy to use and make a job like this fast besides that they are about half the length of a solid sleeve making it easier to work in a tighter area.

As long as it has the o-rings it is acceptable. We can't use dwv or copper repair couplings either, unless they have the elastomeric seal.
Of course saddle valves are not legal either but try shutting down a city main so you can cut in a wye, they won't let you, and they deem the saddle valve legal for that connection.

Re: Replacing Tee

try "hymax" couplings these things are awesome when it comes to repair couplings! Also the last time i checked governing authority over water mains was not any kind of plumbing code at all but AWWA and Ten States Standards. The plumbing codes govern private works not municpal such as water sewer and storm.
