Re: Replace My Barn W A Steel Buliding
We have a 40x80 pole barn. The celing inside is 18ft. We had it installed for $60,000. That was about 10 yrs ago. We then insulated it, installed a bathroom, heat and concrete floor. We are planning on adding on to it soon. One of the best ways to go IMO.

Make sure you build it big enough!! Figure out what size you need a double it! You will always run out of room!

Re: Replace My Barn W A Steel Buliding
you'll regret it if you don't go w/at least 16' sidewalls so you can put in a 14' door. nice sometimes to back a semi in should you have to. your floor costs the same, the roof costs the same, just a little more for sidewall material

Re: Replace My Barn W A Steel Buliding
I did a Google on "steel buildings" and got a ton of leads, most have no pricing info but this one had some.
http://www.olympiabuildings.com/Clea...-buildings.asp Not the exact size you are looking for but could give you an idea of what's out there. Have you tried to PM Joasis, he builds steel buildings and seems like the kind of guy that would help you out if he could. Maybe steer you away from bad products etc. |

Re: Replace My Barn W A Steel Buliding
I too have been looking into installing a steel building and have done quite abit of research. There are several good manufactures out there, and I have looked at many. I will say that Mueller and Whirlwind both are good quality buildings and many more I am sure. You can do a google search for their websites.
There are many things to consider when you spec out a steel building. Wall height is very important as was mentioned. Typically your overhead door will be 2 foot shorter than the wall height, depending on if its on the end or side wall. It all depends on the purpose of your building. Then there's insulation, maybe skylights, windows, etc. Take your time, there are many things to consider and get several quotes, this is a major investment. Good luck... |

Re: Replace My Barn W A Steel Buliding
I had an interesting conversation with a potential customer yesterday. He had quotes from two different erectors on buildings, clear spans, and a 50 wide by 60 long was 36k, but a 50 wide by 120 long was 95k.
He could not understand how, when it appeared to him it should be cheaper. So for you guys reading this, clear span buildings, like the one pictured in my red iron posts, have main frames...cheaper buildings will use one frame for up to 60 feet of length, and build the end walls from purlin and light steel collumns...since they carry only half the load of the main frame. So the cheaper building has one frame, the long building would have 4 or 5 depending on engineering... Anyway, I think I will get the bid, and I don't skip frames, I prefer a full framed building, may cost more, but you get what you pay for.
