I recently rented a machine my operator had a couple errors bent a outside marker disk n cut a front left tire man are they really hitting me hard with this bill charged me $1,600 for the tire thats cost $850 the labor i can swallow but the 47% markup i cant then they wanna try charging me for a whole end assembly on the bent disk the spool all the hardware something like $600 for a $23 disk the whole end assembly fell off on a 125 acre parcel disking loose open land i cant see how the whole assembly came off other than mechanics error you bet there trying to charge me for that to one of there sensors went out theres another $400 bill just amazing $1,400 dollar rental turned in to $4,300 i can swallow the tire and the disk but just gets under my skin about everything else just releasing some frustration

I don't believe that they can charge whatever they want, the charges have to be "reasonable." Also, if the tire has any percentage of wear, it should be prorated. In other words, you shouldn't have to pay for a brand new tire if it's 50% worn.

Well ive always found if your looking for advice you get alot better responses if you can come even remotely close to using proper punctuation. When you spew out a 200 word run on sentence it makes you look like a flaming retard and most ppl wont take the extra 20 mins it takes to reread it 15 times to try and make some meaning out of it.

Oh for Pete's sake, give the guy a break.

OnSite, were I am all of the rental yards charge a percentage of the rental for damage waiver insurance, which would cover these sort of accidental damages to the rental equipment. Unless I specifically decline the coverage, it is included in the rental.

But they all state that flat tires are not included in the coverage.

I also have a policy with my insurance carrier that covers damage to rented leased or borrowed equipment.

I do agree with the earlier post that if the tire was worn some percentage you should not have to foot the bill for the full cost of a new tire.

As far as the rest of the damages, I don't think you should have to pay if the equipment was not properly maintained.

Now then, if the operator was whacking every tree and fence post in site.....

Anyway I would dispute the charges and see where it leads. Contact your insurance agent and see if you might have coverage for this sort of thing.

Wow, I forgot that everyone in the world was perfect. If you cannot type up an informative post, then do not waste everyone elses time by typing up garbage.

To the O.P. I would discuss the charges with them in a calm manner and explain to them the situation. Obviously the charges are BS and you are getting screwed. I would also contact your insurance company.

Hey guys sorry for the grammar....Thanks for the advice yea we have the damage waiver through the rental company the only two things that were operator error were the tire and the bent marker disk so we will see what happens it is just amazing in my eyes how they can put you to the wall like this well thanks again for the advice I appreciate it

My rental yard charges a pretty penny for breaking their stuff. It's understandable.

They have a ton of overhead. A Bobcat mini-ex costs what? $90K? Then they let me put it on one of their Trail Max trailers to haul it to my jobsite. That's another $8K in equipment. Chains and binders, well thats probably $300 at least.

So they have a lot of money tied up in equipment. If I bring it back torn up they lose money because they can't rent it out until it's fixed. So I get to rent it until it gets fixed. On a big mini-ex that can be $200/day.

The bill is likely high becase they charged you for lost rental income. You can't expect the rental company to eat that.
