Question? How Do You Make Your Money?

No I don't want to know laser or ink jet!

Do you do most of your work charging by the hour?

If so do you make money on materials and subcontractors?

Or do you do your work contract?

If you do contract the work are you production motivated (per
unit or ???) or just lump sum?

If you do both what is the percentage of each?

Question? How do you make your money?

Do you do most of your work charging by the hour? less than 20% of our income is hourly

If so do you make money on materials and subcontractors? if you're running them through your books, financing the job, you have to

Or do you do your work contract? approx 60% of our work is repeat/referred, 20% bid, and 20% hourly

If you do contract the work are you production motivated (per
unit or ???) or just lump sum? all of it is production motivated, less fuel, less labor, more profit. but it's becoming more common for owners to ask for lump sums. that's when you're pushed into carrying the contract with you everday you're on the jobsite. lot of general contractors will try to get you to do additional work full knowing it's out of the scope of work stipulated within the contract.

If you do both what is the percentage of each? 80% of ours is unit price structured, 20% lump sum. these #'s don't reflect the hourly work we do.

Do you do most of your work charging by the hour?
--I would say that about half of our work is by the hr.

If so do you make money on materials and subcontractors?
--Yes we markup materials and we don't use subs, we do everything ourselves.

Or do you do your work contract?
--When we do developments or commerical work, we give a bid price.

If you do contract the work are you production motivated (per
unit or ???) or just lump sum?

-- You have to be production motivated to make money in this business. We give lump sum prices, but bid everything by the unit (yd, sq. ft., linear ft, etc...)
