Pre Estimate Pictures

We have started to take pictures of sites and its surroundings to refer to as I am doing the estimate. I will say it has been very helpful in visualizing the work and bring to mind possible problems and triggered many pre estimate questions.

Now if I could only remember to take the camera every time.

Re: Pre Estimate Pictures

great idea! we ALWAYS video a jobsite before we start the work to avoid any hassles after the fact if claims are made as to how we found/left the job, but never thought of using it as a tool for bidding, my work area is typically within 10 miles. so running back out to the jobsite isn't that bad i guess

On tough ones I print them out and lay them around to keep me thinking.

Never took pics for bidding. We always walk the site and I have a pretty good memory.

Re: Pre Estimate Pictures

Its not uncommon for the sales people in our company to work with potential clients sometimes for a year or two even before I get into the picture to even see their site plans to quote. Many of these jobs are 45 mins. to an hour away. I keep telling the sales people to take pictures of the site so when I'm looking at the site plan I can tell if the site has many stumps that will need to be pulled and disposed of and to just get a feel for the site characteristics. They do get their share of tire kickers and I don't want to go and look at every customers site that they deal with unless there's a special concern. So yes pictures are worth a thousand words.

Re: Pre Estimate Pictures

I'm not in the excavating bus. But I usually sake pics of proposed remodels, additions, re-roofs or whatever. Then when bidding they are up on the computer for me to refer to. I've often noticed something in the pic that I didn't see or take note of when I was there. Definitely a help for bidding. Rich.
