First off, If there had been a certain type of spec to thrust blocks, then by all means, we would have done it that way. Our inspectors up in MN were actually quite ok with using concrete slabs, or concrete blocks for kickers as long as we set them properly against undisturbed soil. As far as bumming ready-mix down here, my plumbers I work with are the ones that do that, and it's only a "here and there" type of thing. They certainly do not make a habit of it. Of course, if a concrete contractor on the job is willing just to dump out his extra on the ground,...why not use it for something??

All water mains around me are ductile. Most sanitary mains are SDR35 unless they are a large diameter pipe, then it will be RCP. We use SDR35 for sanitary and for creek crossings we'll use a fernco and run ductile across the waterway.
