More lovely rocks. Just about every house we do, we have to haul out 2-4 loads of rocks. Sometimes, I'll just dig a big hole in somewhere in the corner of the lot and bury them.....especially the ones that are too big to put in our dump truck. The nice white and pink ones we take to the local nursey and sell the rocks to them for $200 a load.

Here are two photos of us crushing some stockpiled demo'd concrete at my yard. I have a John Deere 160Clc loading a RubbleMaster RM80 with a screen on it to make 3/4"- RCA and a John Deere 250II skid steer to clean up

Nac,
Nice equipment, how do you like the JD skid steer? I'm in the market for a new one and leaning towards another Gehl.

Re: Pictures

btw....if your pics tell me what i think i'm seeing...you do the same as we do...we have 3' spreaders on our box....makes for a 4'+ wide cut...we do most of our digging with the 4' bucket....spin around, throw on the 30" to dig inside the box for our final grade passes. we run our box about 1' off grade. have had problems when pulling box ahead wanting to pull pipes apart when the bedding rock gets rolled around with the box. plus, save 18" of bedding material per ft. that way

We run 42" spreaders with 30" and 60" buckets. The JRB quick-couplers are sweet. BTW, I'm hearing about more and more accidents involving the buckets coming off. Local guy the other day got really messed up. Heads up.

Re: Pictures

we have the new style JRB coupler on the hyundai. and we ALWAYS engage the bucket to the ground to check it out before it goes anywhere near the excavation.

Is that right? I met a guy some time ago that was out looking at a job pre-bid and went down in a manhole to se what kind of pipe it was. A step pulled free and he fell +/- 12' to the bottom. Not only did he get hurt bad but he caught a lot of grief 'cause he was a firemen and knew not to enter a confined space without a retrieval system. Fortunately he had another guy with him who called emergency services to haul him out.
FYI - the steps were only temporary for construction access. The manholes were all over 20' deep and we subsequently installed the required fall-prevention systems.

Nice pics. Never have put in any amount of pipe or structures that deep. On a good day under those types of conditions how many feet do you hope to accomplish in a day? Is that for a sewer line? That pipe shown at the bottom of the manhole pic get cut out after the structure is complete? Interesting!

Re: Pictures

What did you do with the material that you dug out for your bench to get down lower ?

We use 3ft spreaders and a 42" bucket. Keep the box on the bottom. We have never had a pipe pull apart yet. We won't have another sewer job for about another 2 yrs. We will be looking into getting another excavator with a quick coupler so we can keep the box off of the ground.

Yes. It got removed almost entirely and rebuilt with a sewer brick 'channel'.

As it turns out the material was too light and had to be replaced with borrow. We hauled it on-site.

Sometimes the ground just won't let you keep the box up off of the bottom. That's when a savvy hoe operator can really earn his keep taking care to lift it before every pull without disturbing the pipe. If your luck is like mine, t's usually in the worst possible trenching conditions that you get a pipe that pulls from home.
