Re: Peterbuilt?

There is an outfit near me that runs a fleet of Petes.

But the pete is really just the window dressing, what power train is in it?

Re: Peterbuilt?

Peterbilt's are good trucks, we have owned several through the years and was the only brand we would buy until recently. Was going to buy a brand new Pete dump truck last year, but found a really good deal on a 2006 Kenworth T800 with only 16,000 miles.

What are you going to use the truck for? What kind of terrain do you have around you, hills, etc? What kind of weight are you planning on hauling/pulling?

The 3306 is decent dependable motor, but it is a small motor and usually rated around 300hp. We have never owned a tandem, tri, or quad dump truck or tractor with less than 400hp, and the current units we own are 475hp. The only large truck we own with less hp is our International boom truck which has a 290 Cummins with 10 speedand 46,000 lb tandems, and it is not very fast or pulls the hills well. But I figure its all right since it only needs to haul itself to a job site and as long as it gets there and does the job.

What model Pete is it, and what front and rear suspension and weight rating. Also what gear ratio.

We have owned 359's, 378's, and 379's

Re: Peterbuilt?

Both of our lowboy tractors are pete's. Good trucks usual maintenance stuff etc. I don't drive anything but a computer chair so take my response with a grain of salt.
