Need Some Eqp Trailer Input?

I found a dual axel trailer for my Bobcat and need a little input.

It's a 2006 and the fella told me the GWR was 7000lbs. However, the wheels have standard Chevy type bolt patterns. It has springs and the paint looks damn good.

He wants 1500.00 and won't budge.

Here are my concerns:
The standard Chevy bolt patterns, how could they be rated at 7000lbs?
It's never been titled (farm use) so it has no title but the owner will provide a bill of sale.

What do you fella's think? 1500 too steep or what?

Bob

That actually sounds like a steal, but why would someone NOT have the title or cert. of origin for a trailer like this, not to mention this new??? I don't know about Ill., but I know in pa without either a title or cert of origin from the manufacturer or dealer, or a DOT tag on the toung, a bill of sale means nothing and good luck getting it titled

I believe that the standard Chevy 15", 5-bolt pattern is rated at 1300#'s. If my math is correct, that would be 5200#'s.

You can always ride on the safety factor of 3 for anything that carries people unless the auto co.'s have circumvented this requirement. It's a standard engineering recommendation.

Is it a homemade trailer, or who is it made by? Just to give you an idea, I just sold a 1986 Hudson Bros. tandem axle, brakes on 1 axel, 8000K GVW for $1000.00. Bought it new, it was in good shape, but could have used paint to make it pretty. Also I was told that if a trailer didn't have tires on it that said made or rated for trailer purposes you could have it impounded if you ever got pulled over, so you saying that trailer has chevy rims on it , I'd check the tires also.

Re: Need Some Eqp Trailer Input?

It sounds like you have two 3,500lb axles, though 5 bolts can go as low as 2,000lbs.

You should be able to locate a label or metal tag on these axles to verify the capacity. And the manufacturer.

Do one or both axles have brakes?

It sounds too good to me, I would be concerned about the frame strength and what kind of weight the deck can take with bouncing around at road speed.

$1,500 for an almost new trailer that should (if 3,500lb) have about $600 worth of axles under it, does not leave much money for steel frame, deck and fabrication.

I don't think I could find a trailer suitable to pull a skidsteer for that price around here.

Dont waste your time or money on something that may not work or cant be registered.

If your going to be hauling a bobcat with some attachments you will need a 14,000 to 15,000 lbs trailer with a pintle hitch. Buying a better trailer buys you peace of mind.

What size Bobcat is it and what attachments do you have?

It's a Bobcat 753 with a Dual 1015 back hoe attachment. The Bobcats at 4550lbs and I'd say the back hoes at about 800 to 1000.

Not sure if I'm going to buy the trailer yet.

Bob,

If a brand new 10,000 LB trailer costs about $3,200 to $4,000 dollars and you have that trailer for 15 to 20 years. I dont know that it is worth $1,500 for what seems might be a problem. Unless you are maxed out on budjet.

Bob,

So, shop until you think you've gotten a real deal on a new one.
