Need A Bit Of Advise
I had a customer call who lives about 2 minutes from me, wanting to have 100 quad axle loads of clean fill leveled out so he can bring in 100 more loads.
He also would like about 200 yards of topsoil which he has on his property pushed up near the house. Right now the clean fills piles are in front of the house and the topsoil is between the road and the clean fill piles. I would estimate the total working area between 1 and 2 acres. I don't have a dozer but can rent a D-3 or D5 for about $1000 per day delivered. I need help on getting a fair price to this guy. I haven't moved this much dirt at one time before. Can anyone shed some light on what I should be expecting? Last edited by wingnut; 08-19-2006 at 01:34 AM. |

Maybe just charge for time and material. Then no one loses.

Wingnut,
I'd do some shopping around for the dozer rental, that seems high, even with the move charges.

Re: Need A Bit Of Advise
Wingnut,
After reading your post again, I'd like to add depending on how fast the trucking guy can get the loads to you you might want to rent the machine for a week. Push off what you have there then push off as they bring them in , prepare from one side to the other and as you're waiting for the trucks you could be pushing topsoil. Do yourself a favor and don't get anything smaller than the D5. Like the other guys have suggested I'd go for the T & M , figure all your expenses then what you want for labor and get pushing.

Re: Need A Bit Of Advise
After driving by it again, I would guess there is more then 200 yards of topsoil.
Is this something that could be done in 8 hours? Rental per day only gives me 8 hours on the machine. Rental for the D-5 is from Fabco and costs $765/day with a $210 delivery and pick up charge. |

Re: Need A Bit Of Advise
Wingnut,
If you're talking about ( 100 quad lds.) , I'm assuming you mean what we woulld call tri - axle lds. you're looking at 1600 - 1800 cu. yds.. How bogus is the fill? Then to do the topsoil, there's no way you'de get done in 8 hrs. IMO.

Don't forget the cost of fuel, taxes and insurance on that rental.

Re: Need A Bit Of Advise
I'm just wondering how far the push is of the topsoil from its current location to up by the house. Where are clean fill loads located?? Maybe a small ho and a truck for 1-2 hours to move everything where you want and then a small dozer like a D-3 or so to finish spreading.
