Land/lot Clearing

For those of you that do it, how do you charge and what exactly do you include ?? What do you do with the tops, logs and stumps ??

Re: Land/lot Clearing

Id there is room for me to drop the trees or push them over I will rent a chipper and chip everthing 12"- and load containers. The stumps allways get pulled and load in to containers to be recycled. Usally I work by the day. If it is something that is tight or is no room for me to do the trees I will have someone take of the cutting and grinding and I will the rest that i wouls figure by the job not daily

Re: Land/lot Clearing

rino,

We don't do a lot of this. We will give a contract price or do it by the hour. Lots are so different. If there is usable timber we would get a logger to do most of the work and clean up after them.

Stumps, we use our stumpbuster that I posted the picture of way back. If they have to be removed we haul them to a stump dump. I think we pay $6.00 a yard? People who have room have had us loose the busted up material on the property. I don't know that I would bury stumps anymore. You can bury up to 10 cy. on any one property 1 acre or 150 acres, 10 cy in Conn.

Tops, we can burn brush up to 3". In most towns that is not enforced so everything goes. Of course there is the town that is an exception, as I found out this year. We would rent a chipper or hire someone if need be.

Logs, most have gone along with the brush. Fire wood going up in price and with loggers taking smaller stuff now they always seem to go. We can send them to everything to the stump dump if we need to.

Not all of us can pick up a good deal on a chipper at auction? How is that machine working out for you?

I don't really enjoy cutting trees with a saw. Knocking them down with the 955L is more fun.

Re: Land/lot Clearing

We do quite a bit of it. We prolly clear 25-30 acres per year. Around my area is very competitive. People don't wanna mess around hiring how many different contractors, so they want one person to do it all. There are a couple excavators that also do poured walls. We have been thinking about buying a set of forms, but really don't wanna hire people to throw them around.

Anyway, we clear with the excavator. We used to burn everything, but now we have the chipper. We chip the tops and any tree under 8". Anything goes to firewood or saw logs. We have a friend that has a logging/sawmill business. We give all of the trees for free and in turn, he makes us planks for our trailers and side boards for the dump truck. As far as the stumps go, we haul them to our shale pit and burn them in the winter. If it is a big site work job and we are able to, we will burn them on site.

We charge $3,500 per acre and we won't clear a 1/2 acre lot for under $2,500. This includes complete removal of everything.
