Installing Septic System

Anyone know the easiest way to install a septic system? We are contractors who are adding on to our personal residence and want to save money by installing the septic tank ourself. We have researched and found that there are plastic septic tanks that don't weigh much, any thoughts on these? What about how to hook up and field lines? The septic tank we are using now is about one foot from our house and needs to be moved out further in the yard. We have been told we need an areobic system however we want to put the conventional style back in place. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks

Where are you from? Do you plan on getting a permit for the new system? Is the existing system failing? Whens the last time you had it pumped? Have you done any soil testing?

We are in Longview, TX, didn't want to pull permit, don't think they would let us do it ourself if we pulled permit. Plus if we pulled permit they would make us do an aerobic system. The existing system is working just fine, just we want to put a bedroom where it is right now. We had it pumped last summer. No we have not soil tested. Do we need to do this even though we already have a septic tank in place that works fine?

So, you want to use your exsisting drain field, but you just want to move the tank for a addition onto the house.

Do you have a holding tank and then a dosing tank or do you have a combo tank, meaning that the solids and pump are in the same tank, but different compartments.

You will need a decent size machine to dig a hole the size of the tank where you want it. Then you will have to be very careful and dig all around the existing tank and lift it out and set it in the new hole. Then reconnect the lines. It is quite easy, but if you don't know what you are doing, then I suggest hiring someone else to do it.

We are not using the existing tank, we are going to have it pumped and caved in. We are going to buy a new tank and install it. Anyone know how we need to proceed, soil testing?, drain lines? Is it hard to do ourselves? Any websites anyone knows of to help us out?

You're from Texas and I have a License in Conn. the codes are probably like night and day. One very important reason to get a permit is that the updated system would be recorded which is a big factor at least around here if you ever want to sell your home. In Conn. the size of your septic is based on the number of bedrooms. Lets say it would be impossible to list your home as a 4 bedroom if the town hall records only had you down for a 3 bedroom. I don't want to get just thought I'de point that out to you.

Re: Installing Septic System

When your tank moves, so does your pitch, whichis very important. after you rent a machine + delivery, maybe a load or two of materials. Then you need either a transit or a laser... Your better off hiring someone who can prob. do it in a day

Re: Installing Septic System

Do the right thing and have a profesional do the work. As a contractor, you should know the importance of following codes. If an aerobic system is required use it, they work and are not really that expensive compared to polluted ground water cleanup, or worse, a visit to the hospital with sewage illnesses.

Raw sewage can affect your family and your neighbors. Pull a permit, do it right.. Probably can save alot of money by having a pro do it.
