Inspections

Just curious. Do all the towns you work in require footing drain inspections before you backfill ?

Re: Inspections

Not in Greenwich either which I thought was strange when I first started to do work there, but it comes in handy when you have to backfill your way around to get to the back yard.

Re: Inspections

after a rash of shoddy, no longer in business contractors during the mid 80's...EVERYTHING here gets inspected. the site has to have a hole dug, (can be with post hole digger) the depth of basement excavation and stand for 48 hrs. to make sure there's not a surface water problem, the excavation must be inspected before footings are poured, drain tile inspected before backfill, water/sewer lines tested. overkill maybe, but we get paid for it, and customer, city knows what they have to contend with.

on our development work, the developer is required to have a full time inspector at his expense to watch us put in water/sewer mains and the laterals. again, if you're the type to do things the right way, they're no bother at all. our sewer lines are air tested at 5lbs. for one minute per pipe inch., water lines at 120 psi for 2 hrs., manholes must be filled to rim with water and stand 2 hrs. with zero loss, or you can vacuum test them.

Nick ,
I did a job in N.Y. a few yrs. ago and they didn't even care that I was licensed to do septics. Is that all over in N.Y.?

Re: Inspections

Joe,

It seems in the upper counties. There is no septic license and NO regulation on repair of systems where we have worked?

In NY All new systems have to be inspected by an engineer. If a system needs to be designed by an engineer and inspected by an engineer why do you need licensing?

Re: Inspections

In my area, they don't check the drains, but they do check to make sure that there is fabric over the stone before I backfill.

Re: Inspections

One town in NH had no inpections for the whole house, but the next town over, so far wants to inspect the footing drain before backfil. I think he wants to check my rough wiring and plumbing before i cover it
