Identification Of Base Material

I'm looking over a job which involves demo of a tennis court and pulled up a test section to determine depth of the asphalt and base material. The base is 4" composed of stone of various sizes (like crusher run) but instead of stone dust and finer stone mixed in it has course sand mixed throughout. The installation probably dates back to the early 70's.

Was this possibly a mix just for this particular application? Would it be suitable for reuse as base for a driveway?

Re: Identification Of Base Material

If the sand is "sharp", I would think it would be suitable for a base for a driveway.

Could be they added sand for additional drainage properties under the court.

Re: Identification Of Base Material

Sound's like sand and gravel mix to me. We never use it in the metro but out of town they use it quiet often. I think it's because limestone and recycle are just more abundant around the cities. In any case if you needed allot of material for a driveway you could reclaim the bit and have them mix it all full depth. I would only recommend that if you were selling the rock. Good luck!!!!!!
