Re: I Have A Little Story

The way you guys put it doesn't sound good at all. Sometimes I think that I will never be smart enough to avoid this stuff. Yes dayexco I have heard that expression and yes Rino I now all about hookers, last I heard they cost more than $2 but that's for another thread. MEOW,MEOW, how's that?

Re: I Have A Little Story

I think you are mostly spinning your wheels to pursue any type of recourse or any justice in this particular case.

I would how ever visit your contact that told you to bump the numbers up 3K, and inform him that if he pulls anything like this in the future......

I'd let him know that you came to him with an honest bid and he threw you under the bus with his "advice". You had a lower bid, you should have won the project.

Let him know in no uncertain terms that he stole the project from you, he stole money that you need for your family.

You already know the right thing to do. You expose this corruption.

You can pretend it never happened and go on with your life as some have said, but then any time you hear about corruption you are going to have to keep quiet about it, because it, too, is none of your business, and it might cost you not to drop it.

"When good men do nothing..."

Something I ask myself in these positions is: How would I explain this to my kid. Then I make the choice that allows me to tell the truth to my son.

Re: I Have A Little Story

I spoke with the CFO yesterday. I told here the story exactly as it took place and then asked her what her thoughts were.

She says " I need to talk to him and will get back to you, I will also include my compliance officer".

I get a call today from the compliance officer and tell her the same story. I also tell her that I struggled a great deal with what to do because I was on the loosing end if I did something about it or just chalked it up to a bad experience.

In the end I decided to do what I felt was right. She said that she appreciated that. I agreed and also admitted that I should of called that first day when I met with my contact. I also indicated that I didn't want to "burn any bridges along the way" and she indicated that that wasn't the case we still could be awarded the work. I guess it is possible for this to have a outcome better than I ever dreamed it would but in the end I feel that I did the right thing no matter what the outcome.

I will keep you guys updated as this unfolds.

You weren't going to get the job either way. They just used you to fatten up the insider's deal.

Re: I Have A Little Story

gallerytungsten, that certainly is the common opinion here. After everyone here concluded that this was the case my next question was:

Should I let it drop or complain to the CFO of the organization?

I think I did what was hard to do not easy and hopefully it won't come back to bite me in the ass.

I go and meet this guy and look at booth parking lots. These are assisted living buildings paid for by the state from tax dollars. When I give the property manager the price he says that I was a little low and tells me to add about $3000.00 to my quote. He says "I don't want you to get hurt". Then he instructs me to fax over my quote for both properties. Just to qualify this it was about 25k worth of plowing so was definitely an account I wanted. I call this guy yesterday and he says " oh you didn't get a letter, we went with another guy he was less than $500 lower than you" I say "you told me what to quote, my number was lower but you instructed me to quote higher" This guy is employed by the property the head maintenance guy. I hang up the phone and bells start to go off in my head, if so what to do about it. What do you guys think, am I nuts or do you think I was just used to get the number higher for someone my contact wanted to use.
Sounds like the DDSO bidding in Rome. Those guys got probation. I might be tempted to report it!!

You don't have the contract now, I would report it. You might be suprised.
Only thing holding me back, is the CEO politically connected?

Thanks Framer for your post, I did indeed report it to CFO and the compliance officer so waiting on the outcome and no I did not receive contract at this point. All CFO's are politically connected in my, our town.

We just had a huge story here this summer with full page stories on the front page of the local paper and bid rigging was the subject, a few guys lost their jobs over it. Do you think I should pursue it, whats my end game, what the best end result I can expect.

Cover pricing maybe?? is everyone on her in the us by the way???

Re: I Have A Little Story

if it's private funds...there is no bid rigging. they can hire/fire who they desire. this manager may put his job in peril were he caught taking some money under the table to make sure his buddy was hired. as i said in an earlier post...you're going to spend a LOT of money pursuing this. were it me, i'd go back and sit in the corner and lick my wounds....and write it off as an education.

Day, it was public funds. I am still going to the corner though. I did everything I thought was right and not spend any money doing it.

Re: I Have A Little Story

Framer I just don't need anymore "drama" as neolitic put it.

I am busy trying to concentrate on jobs at hand. Don't forget that I did inform the CFO and the compliance office of the organization. I have been tempted to follow up with CFO again, she has not followed up with me, but I need an office day for that. A few days have past then a week and your attention goes to the everyday problems of running the biz.

Re: I Have A Little Story

I'd let it go Mac.

My one big concern with dealing with these a-holes is that the more you push the issue....it could be more likely that someone is getting their panties in a wad and you'll end up trying to defend yourself from a suite naming you as a willing participant in this price fixing thing.

Let it rest.
