Hydraulic Tools

I have been toying with the idea of setting a truck up with a hydraulic power unit and equipping it with hydraulic tools. A breaker, jack hammer, drills, chipper and some others. Anyone have experience with this type of tool setup.

Re: Hydraulic Tools

We don't use them enough to designate a specific truck for it. If we know that we are going to need the tamper or hammer, then we'll load it in the back of the truck for the next day.

Re: Hydraulic Tools

I just finished with a Atlas Copco demo unit it was a Honda power pack and a 60lb Hydralic hammer I loved it it hit as hard as a 90lb air hammer. The power pack and hammer will only set you back about 6,000 grand. I have a Hydraulic rock drill i am demoing next week to make some holes for chemical rock spliting I tell you how it goes, but it it was any think the hammer it schould be great and will be buying it.

Re: Hydraulic Tools

Nac,

How far from the power unit can you run the tools? I am interested in how your demo goes with the drill. How do they blow out drill holes with the hydraulics? How many gallons a minute is the power unit?

Nice to have you here Nac.

Re: Hydraulic Tools

I belive you can run about 66-70 feet of hose (2) lenghts there metric so it is an odd number. I had the power unit that can run 5-7 gal/min I think. For the rock drill you can run a spirl bit 3 ft with out air to flush it out. Or you can run a standard rock drill steel but have to add air they tell me a standard electric pancake compresser is fine.
