How Deep & Wide?

I've got a 3" dia. x 20' long iron pipe I want to set in concrete to hold a security camera and motion detector light.
Just wondering how big the hole should be to keep things straight and stable.
Thanks.

Re: How Deep & Wide?

How deep do you plan to place the pipe?

I would think that 2' diameter if you can get 4 or 5' deep would work.

I recently bid a job to place a concrete footing for a commercial sign, (Jiffy Lube), it needed to be 7' deep and 3' Diameter.

5 ft in the ground min, best guess without seeing soil conditions.

Re: How Deep & Wide?

The smaller light pole bases we installed on a job recently were 6' deep with a 3' diameter.

Re: How Deep & Wide?

We did a job last year with 10 foot high aluminum light poles. footings had to be 7 feet deep, 30 inches round with steel cages. Kind of crazy in my book but you gotta love those engineers.

That might be due to traffic, or may be due to estimated wind loads on the poles.

Re: How Deep & Wide?

I just put together a proposal for installing a 15' tall street lamp and the recomended footing was 2'X4' for this area. There is alot of stone where it is going, thanks god for mini-ex's.

Need to be buried 1/3 of the total size of the pole. Hole needs to be 9" dia.

Re: How Deep & Wide?

Anything more than five feet deep would probably be fine, but I'd probably make it anywhere from 6-7. Always better safe than sorry.

Sclancy...sorry for the delay. I just got out of the hospital with an infected appendix.
I tried to pm you but it wouldn't let me on your end, or, I'm too tired to figure it out.
'Sup?
