Re: Heli-loggers

I have worked under copters like that before working on a pipeline. Crazy SOB's flying those things. The pilots that flew for us showed up the first day hungover as hell. They flew in, landed, and both jumped out puking. They gave us our instructions and told us we had 20-30 seconds to unhook the load or they would drop the line on us. Back then they didnt have the remote chokers and we used regular screw clevices. They were flying on 40' lengths of 16" pipe and the loads were 8-10k. These guys flew on fumes to carry the weight.
Several yrs later i helped put in the towers for a new lift line. Same thing, they carried the tower in and set them on the pad. We lined them up and put a couple nuts on so they could release and go after another tower. You could set all the towers in a couple days that way.
