Question

Heavy Equept Auctions, Prices Changing Yet ????

Looking for a used 12 ton tag trailer with air brakes. Have the prices come down with the economy? Haven't been in a couple of Years. I'm in the Bay area , N. Ca.

Thanks Drift

Re: Heavy Equept Auctions, Prices Changing Yet ????

I attend auctions quite often. I go to about 10-12 per year. From what I have seen, the small auctions tend to have some deals. It all depends on what people are looking for at that time, and you will not know until it is time. Sometimes backhoes will go cheap. Next auction, they will be high and skid steers will go cheap. Alot of of the smaller auctions you need to watch out for because there are buy backs and owners running up the price. When we go, we walk around and take notice who is looking at what and who is bidding on what. A real good auction to go to is Ritchie Bros. They always get a large amount of equipment and they do not allow any buy backs and if they find out that someone is bidding on their own piece, they will throw them out. The problem with RB is they bring in the exporters. They exporters really drive up the price, especially on the big iron. I've watched guys buy 5 excavators right in a row. As far as a 12 ton tag, you can get a good deal, but it just depends on who is there and what they are looking for.

I remember after the end of the fat 80's there were a poop load of large auctions for quiet some time, probably over the course of 5 years, and allot of bargains were made.

What's close is Nationwide in Benicia Ca. They are an unscrupulous lot of thieves. Bought a used hoe. Now I saw the xtra bucket before show time.
It disappeared ! when I went to load it out.

I hope prices are down, I'll be going to the Ritchie Brothers auction next week in Olympia, WA. And will be there this Sunday to prescreen the equipment.

Looking to buy a couple of small scissor lifts, another JD Gator, a mini excavator if there are any good ones there, and maybe one or two more dump trucks and pups if the price is a steal. And anything else that catches my eye if it is a really good price.

Hey, if anyone is in the Maryland area, I am going to the RB auction in Northeast, MD. Won't be buying anything though, just bought a backhoe and a lowboy trailer.

Re: Heavy Equept Auctions, Prices Changing Yet ????

I should have gone to the auction in Maryland with Rino. I see that the scissor lifts I was looking for only went for around $1000 there, here in Olympia the were going for $2500 to $4000. So I didn't buy any. I am not in that big of a hurry and can wait a little while for a good deal.

The only thing I bought was a 2001 Beall tri-axle pup trailer in excellent condition for $19,000. Half a year to a year ago this trailer would have gone for at least $35,000.

There was also a new unused 2007 Beall quad-axle that went for $30,000, the new price for this trailer is $60,000.

There were some very good deals on some things, and not so good deals on others. Fairly new backhoes were going very cheap, dump trucks below average, some boom manlifts were also very cheap.

Pics of our trailer from the RB website.
