Hearing Protection

Hearing Protection.

Do you use it?

Do you make others use it?

How's your hearing?

Nick

Re: Hearing Protection

HUH? WHAT YOU SAY?!?!?!

I try to use it as much as possible, but I get made fun of when I follow the directions on the foam earplug package.

Re: Hearing Protection

Nick,
Went to a hearing specialist couple of years ago ( cause I couldn't hear )Had some kind of wicked azz cold that went through my sinuses and screwed up my hearing. The Dr. looks in my ear and says look at that bird outside ( like he could see straight through, everyone wants to be a comedian ) He says wow you have some damage in here (what the heck does he know? ) Seems like over the many years I should have been wearing hearing protection. The way he explained to me the decibles or different sounds we hear on a day to day basis we should be wearing them contantly. Look I have them in my truck. Does that count? Do you wear them Nick? Safety Glasses? Sun Glasses? Sun Blocker?

i grew up on detroit diesels, back in the era where it was not uncommon to jump into a manhole and jackhammer an invert out and replace it. run chop saws down in an excavation. all without hearing protection. how's my hearing? huh, what'd you say?

Re: Hearing Protection

Everybody has earplugs and muffs with them. I use them 50% of the time. Guys are about the same if not a little less.

Re: Hearing Protection

I have a slight hearing loss and my dad has major hearing loss and has hearing aids. It is hereditary in my family. The only time I wear hearing protection is running a hammer or our 977.

Re: Hearing Protection

I always wear hear protection. Wheather i am running a skid steer, excavator or anything with a motor. You only get one set of ears, so you better take care of them, so you can hear what your grandkids are saying!!!

Re: Hearing Protection

We are all much more aware of this now and protection is manditory. Buuuuuuut, back in the old days we just did our jobs in ignorance. My hearing is still pretty keen between bouts of tinnitus.

It is a L with a m/s ripper. We got it from a guy we know that bought it new in 1974 and has 5,000 original hrs on it. I'll take some pics of it when I get a chance. We will be putting a fresh coat of paint on it this winter and some new pads.
