It Has Begun

Well the job is underway. We started to cut a road into the bottom of the hill you can make it out in the picture. The next day the water was running out of the hillside. You can see the bank collapsing. It is a hard grey clay that turns to grease when loosened up. There are layers of sandy material in it that doesn't let it hold together.

The path we cut down was so slippery the machine would slide down the hill while working.

Well I backed up the hill cutting a ditch in the hill to let the water out. I let it run for a week and started hauling in blasted material from a quarry. 800 tons so far. I started cutting out about 4' of clay at the top and started putting the rock in. There is no place for the rock and no place for the excavated clay. So it's cast the clay up and up again and then toss and roll the rock down.

That gray snotty clay is the worst to deal with. I like your silt fence, way to go the extra mile with the hay bales.

Looks like a tough site Nick, but you knew that going in.

I hope the weather helps you out but this rain we just got made things pretty wet here. Looks like you're getting it too.

Stick with it and let us know how you're doing.

Re: It Has Begun

The soil testing company came and did test borings where the pool goes last Friday and this Tuesday. We are waiting for them to get the report to the engineer to see if everything meets his design spec before we can proceed.

Need help for a week Joe. Were you in the office all day today with the rain?
