Harley Rake Vs. Rockhound
Which do you like better and why ??
One of the builders we work for has a T190 with a harley rake and I used it before I spread the topsoil. It fluffed up the yard nice, but it did leave alot of little stones. It needed to be york raked, but that didn't happen. It seemed to work better for me to work backwards. Although, that is the first time in my life even using a skid steer, so it took some getting used to. Yesterday, we bought a rockhound pretty reasonable, but don't have a skid steer to use it on. So, that will be the next purchase.

Re: Harley Rake Vs. Rockhound
rino,
I've never used either. I see more of them on machines going by with them all the time. I'd like to see a job done by one of each.

Re: Harley Rake Vs. Rockhound
We rented a rock hound a couple years ago for a large lawn we had to do.
It worked well, picked up the stones and left a pretty smooth grade, ready for seed. I have never used a Harley Rake, but to my understanding, it windrows the stones to one side or the other. You would then have to go back and pick them up, usually with a different machine, unless you want to keep dropping the rake attachment and switching to the bucket. What skid loader are you looking to get? I am getting ready to let my Takeuchi go. Low hours, very good condition. Let me know if you would like to try it out. |

Re: Harley Rake Vs. Rockhound
for yard prep i have been using a roto dairon. its pretty much a single pass attachment. it tills then buries the rocks and leaves a nice finish grade to seed. it will go deeper than a rockhound or harley rake as well. this seems to help with the grading for me.
good luck, |

My first skid-steer purchase, first job was a soft wet septic system install, I got done in 6 hours what would have taken 2 days with the backhoe. Just carrying stone to the trenches was so much faster. Backfill and grading is a snap! I will send you some info on it, and I will take some photos so you can see what kind of condition she's in. Give me a couple days to get it together. |

Re: Harley Rake Vs. Rockhound
I've only run a Harley on a tractor, and it works well on them. We are probably going to buy a skid steer this year, next week we're going to start renting. Harley is a much more popular brand in this area, but from what I've learned so far from friends that have used both, the rockhound would probably do a better job,
