Hard Facing

What do you do to prolong life of wear parts?

Do you build up by welding hard facing on edges?

I see some really cover everything?

Do you add extra wear plates?

Do you rotate edges and teeth?

Re: Hard Facing

We hard face our excavator buckets. It really doesn't last too long here because of all of the rocks. We had to hardface the shanks our our 315 bucket and then grind them to help the bucket teeth fit tighter.

Re: Hard Facing

we run all gummer buckets, so whenever we put on a new edge, we hard surface it. we also hard surface the spikes on our sheepsfoot. believe it or not, took a whole roll of wire to do the pads on the sheepsfoot

Re: Hard Facing

ha....never heard it refered to as a "gummer" but guess it says what it means!!! At my uncles Co. All the "gummer" buckets for our excavators have cutting edges made by a company that are bent to the shape of our sand buckets. Very thick steel that is hardened and they usually last about a season or two. Small tractor backhoe buckets are beefed up by replacing the leading edge of the sides with cutting edge steel, and a thicker cutting edge is welded in place of the factory (john deere) cutting edge/shank section.
