Grader
We've been doing some grading and topsoiling in tight spaces and flowing grades I made a grading attachment out of a 5' piece of 12" I beam that we wrapped a couple of chains around it and we drag or scrape with it using our X320 Bobcat which is only 3,200 LBS and 39" wide. It works well saved a lot of raking.
I am thinking of making something more permanent. Anyone played with something like this. We used to have a road grader made out of R.R. track pieces it was simple but very effective. It could be dragged behind anything it was constructed about 75 years ago and used in a lumber yard for 30 years to keep the roads in good shape.

Re: Grader
denick, this isn't mine, but a picture similiar to what i use. mine is only 10' wide, not quite that heavy duty, i pull it behind an older 560 international ag tractor. we use it to finish off our jobs before we leave. they work slicker than snot on a doorknob. you can buy smaller ones also, that will go behind a small ford or kubota tractor if i can find a link for em. i'll post.

Re: Grader
what is it, just a grading box or soemething? doesn't it scrape up a lot of stuff? do you need to be able to hoist/lower it continuosly while grading or does it just float?

Re: Grader
here is the unit i own. you can set it to float, to scrape, to dig...we will normally just set ours down so the molboard just touches the ground. they work beautiful

Re: Grader
I have a friend that does some grading of horse riding rings.
He will use a steel beam about 12' long, hook it with chains to a tractor and drag the ring. It works real well, he can adjust the chains to move material to the left or right, lengthen the chain it digs in more, shorter chain cuts less. Lays it out nice and flat. This size beam would not work well on slopes obviously but in a 60' X120' sand riding ring that these horse people want flat as a pancake it's great.

Re: Grader
In my younger days I'd see all kinds of things draged behind tractors to grade things off. Chains, tires, beams, wire fencing, old bed springs. Nick one thing that won't work is an air mattress
