Got A Woodie At The Rental Store Yesterday:)
Been reading and researching mini skidders for the past few months since it would work very well for alot of our post hole/trenching needs since 90% of my work is in back yards. Really thinking about a Bobcat 453/463 so I could use it for winter time snow removal between cars in my apt. parking lots...anyways, a buddy of mine calls and said the rental store had a mini down there they just got in
so I had to go down and talk my freind that runs the place. It's a Toro tracked 420 model, got to fire it up and as fate would have it they already had a 30" auger bit hooked up. This thing was schweet controls are very easy to operate/understand, soil was typical black dirt and even with only a 20hp gas motor the thing was barely breaking a sweat once the boom arm was touching grade and had the 30" auger 48" deep in the groundAxiously awaiting the first trial run, have a privacey fence in a tight back yard and a huge deck with ALOT of footings-full size skidder would probably be a little quicker for the deck since it's new construct, but I want to get more familiar with the mini since it's on the "to buy" list if it meets my percieved expectations. |

I just bought a Bobcat 753 a few months back, don't really know if I'd want anything smaller. I think mine just right, plenty of power and weight to handle the bigger attachments.

Re: Got A Woodie At The Rental Store Yesterday:)
Fortuneately/unfortunately depending how ya want to look at it, while i will someday add a large machine to the fleet of toys, right now with current work load it really does'nt fit in anywhere to make it pay for itself. If I need machine work I either borrow a buddies, sub it out which is few and far between currently. The mini could prove it's worth since inital investment is low even with purchased attachements and augers, and it will get into about any standard back yard without tearing it up or us having to lay plywood down. Each machine definately fills a niche, was thinking about buying a fork truck for next winter to unload pallets of treated salt, then it hit me-duh, skid loader and forks LOL!! so it will happen, just a matter of time.
someday I'll get a big one, but for now the smaller one works just fine....overheard my wife say that the other night to her girlfreind on the phone.....oh wait a minute
