Get A Whistle Orange Gloves & LOOK ALIVE!!

hi guys,

I was almost murdered by a TA30 dump today,
the flagger who waved me on literally "said oops i didnt know he was coming, with a goofy chuckle"

id guess-timate my e150 van, myselff & 3 helpers came within 5 ft of meeting the maker.. (yeah i know its illegal to have guys sitting on chemical buckets in the back of a cargo van.)

though i must admit this goes for the off duty cops too, i suppose it doesnt matter if they are making $43 or $9 an hour..

ray

pool1,

Well I'm glad you are still here.

I always wonder when I see a flagman or police officer not paying attention when on traffic duty. Do they realize their liability if something happens.

In a civil court you only need to be 51% wrong to loose everything.

I always thought it ironic that something so important as traffic control is often relegated to your most inexperienced help. We provide a training class at least quarterly specifically covering flagging.

Whenever , wife and I return to Mass. we see something crazy. Cops on off duty as flagmen on EVERY little project. WHY not give some little guy , or gal a break at employment? Not to mention the taxpayers! And what really pisses Me of is they never pay attention to traffic ! God forbid You ask them for directions !! People need to take back their Govt. !!!

I just think it should be mandated they use signs

STOP & SLOW

I don't care what they are making as long as they perform...

Re: Get A Whistle Orange Gloves & LOOK ALIVE!!

Oh, I have been dying to discuss this subject. Not sure if this is everywhere, but around here flag people seem to be optional. I don't understand how a Verizon truck can block an entire lane around a turn and have only one guy on the site...and he is up in the bucket!!

They we have the flagger who has the flag stuck in his back pocket as he tgrys to direct you with his hand Did he miss flag class the day they explained why it is big and orange.

Of course we have the flagger (and this has happened to me on numerous ocassions) who tells me to go while I can clearly see the OTHER flagger telling their side to go!

I refuse to cross a yellow line without him/her (actually seems to be the guys screwing up in my cases) pulling that flag out of his pocket and waving it.

I agree with ya though....Forget the flags...STOP and SLOW signs need to replace those flags.

We have the "Stop/Slow" signs around here....they still screw it up sometimes.

Bottom line is YOU are responsible for your own safety, always double check to be sure the way is clear.

I too have been flagged on, only to find had I followed direction, I would at minimum have had a trip to the body shop.

It sucks, but it gets worse every day, really guys...."YOU CAN'T BE TOO CAREFUL!"

Re: Get A Whistle Orange Gloves & LOOK ALIVE!!

I have a friend that is a blaster. He was doing a big gatorade warehouse project for a contractor. He was in his pickup doing paperwork when he looked over and saw a Cat 773 coming at him. He bailed out of the pickup and the Cat haul truck ran over his hood. The kid said he didn't see him. 1.5hrs later, the same kid drove straight into the blade of a D8. Needless to say, he was fired after that.
