Fun Or Relaxation?

So! If were on the subject of Golf,

What do people who roll around in the dirt all day do for relaxation or fun. If nothing now what did you do or what are you thinking of doing?

Golf is my refuge from all things stressful. I only have to think about golf while I'm playing - everything else is forgotten when I pull in the parking lot.

Re: Fun Or Relaxation?

It's hard to squeeze in fun time isn't it???? Well, I enjoy a little golf here and there, of course, I've been outside all day and sometimes I don't want to be outside anymore ya know.....So in that case i head to the extra room and record music. I've been playing guitar since I was nine so music is kind of a getaway for me. I've been recording my own stuff now for about 2 years. Nothing that's gona get a grammy nom but my kids and wife like the stuff....They have my CD's playing in their players all the time...makes me feel pretty good.

Re: Fun Or Relaxation?

Friends, food and plenty of adult libations is what I typically do for fun. God has blessed us with a wonderful group of friends in the community and someone is almost always opening their home on any given Friday or Saturday evening.

Sundays are usually set aside for family stuff: church, some 'catch' at the park with the kids, family dinners, matinees, etc. Monday - Saturday stays busy with work, school, team sports, community meetings, etc. Not much time, or inclination, for leisure activities until Friday and Saturday evenings.

Re: Fun Or Relaxation?

I asked this question because in the last few months it's been told to me by few different people that I should take a vacation and or take up a hobby. Even my kids think I'm a little boring.

Do we need vacations and hobbies? (except as it applies to our family's needs)

I do my best to fullfill my obligations as a businessman, as a father, as a family member, as an EMT, as a member of my community and as a Roman Catholic. I enjoy the people I know and meet and I enjoy most aspects of the work I do. You can be sure I have fallen far short many times in the things I have done but I have given it my best and want to continue to do so.

This is fun to me. I was just wondering if you guys were having more fun than I am?

Nick,
This is really starting to freak me out. Now we're also both boring Through my sons teenage years we did many things together. Going up to Canada on snowmobile trips 4-5 times a season. Then he took up Motocross and for 5 years every weekend we were going racing, I lived for the weekends, we went all over. Tracks in N.Y., Mass., Maine, Penn., N.C.,Maryland, N.J., even got out to Tenn. one year when he made it to Loretta Lynns Nationals ( came in 5th in his class) That was a week trip. Then when he went to college I was shattered, lost my pal. In "99" I was working by the Danbury airport and seeing the planes come in and out raised my curiousity and decided I had to try it. I started lessons for a year, even when we went to Az. I rented a plane and instructor out there and went flying for a few days, took my wife, son, and myself, plus instructor and flew out to Sedona from Mesa, really beautiful. Then after we got back from Az. I went and soloed a few times. The last time I go up I'm flying out of Danbury towards Oxford airport, I look over to the seat where the instructor would be and I say to myself WTF What the heck am I doing? Will I live to see 50? Just didn't feel right that I should be up there, so I landed and that was my last time up. Since then I've been doing things that I enjoy to keep me occupied. My daughter bought a house in Southington that I worked on for 2 years, complete gut job, new windows, siding, roofing, plumbing, electric, tied into town sewer, and water. Then she got married and sold the house Now this project, adding 2000 sq ft., 2 car garage, gutting existing house, about another 8-10 months then I'll have to start on my workshop. Work, work work, but it keeps me busy and out of trouble. Wow this is a long one. Chapter 2 to follow.

I've eaten all the popcorn, cotton candy and good and plenty, drank all the soda while waiting for the next installment of the novel. Going to bed.

Re: Fun Or Relaxation?

I guess I don't have a lot of hobbies at home simply because I have way too much fun at work!! That's the truth really, I'm up at 3:30am, check contractor talk..then equipment talk, then my fantasy football website, and finally home recording website, then off to work between 4:30 and 5 am. I get to work between and hour and an hour and a half earlier than start up cause I just can't wait!!! I"m not being sarchastic either.....I truely love what I do, no matter where or what I happen to be running that day. It's sick really...My grandfather brainwashed us into being construction junkies!!!! and I'm thankful for it. Unfortunately this long weekend...there's no machines and nothing to dig. Although my neighbor brought his skid-steer home this weekend! I might have to borrow it and push up some top-soil to use at a later date!!!!!

Re: Fun Or Relaxation?

This thread brings up an interesting subject thats been on my mind lately.

Do ya think we need some brain time away and how much?

About the only hobby I have anymore is billiards, and thats accompanied by some pretty hefty beer slugging, however I'm not having as much fun drinking as I used to so I'm thinking about taking up fishing again........I can fish without drinking.

I thought it was a law you had to drink while fishing.

Re: Fun Or Relaxation?

The one thing I do is I don't "Work" on Sundays. I don't go see customers, answer the business phone, work on the job. I take my mind off it by 7 PM Sat. and don't go back to it until at least 8PM Sun. most times until 5 AM Mon.

Maybe 12 years ago I started this. I had to force myself. I have lost customers over it. But it is very important to take time to rest in someway everyweek. For thirty years I tried doing it 6 to 7 days a week.

I guess I could go in about how I feel and why I did it. You probably don't want to hear it.

I'd only say try it you may need it.
