Re: Free Money

Maybe some others have insight into this, but I think it is a major hoax to ever buy into the idea of "free" or "grants requiring no pay back" for private business. Even businesses affected by Katrina got low interest loans...but no free money.

If you have a great business plan, work on a small business loan...I understand in larger cities, you can find people who will help write the business plan and assist with the application process....I believe it was SCORE, or Service Corp of Retired Executives who would do it for free. I have read the SBA loans are easier to get then most would guess, and the program is overfunded, meaning they do not lend all they have allocated (rather they don't actually loan, but accept the risk of banks in the SBA program).

You'd be better of trying to get a grant to start up a liquor store or a gas station...at least there's fewer of them than 'earthmoving' contractors.

Re: Free Money

This really doens't have anything at all to do with excevation.

The government does give away free money. It usually requires alot of upfront paper work in terms of applications and so forth but it is 100% real.

In our industry, the government does give away lots of money for the development of rural agricultural areas. However that money goes to developers who put up subdivisions, not one house at a time.

They also spend billions on over seas development. I know because I am on a mailing list and ever new federal grant that is relased is goes on this official mailing list provided by Uncle Sam.

Federal grants are not the only form of grants. In the city of chicago, at the beginning of the year, the mayor set aside some funds for garden roofing. He was giving up to $5000 per household away towards the expense of a garden roof. A garden roof can cost about $10,00 for 1000 square feet plus the cost of the roofing so somewheres around $20,000 for the entir project, but if you want a garden roof that $5,000 surely helped.

The government is also paying a portion of the price if home owners remodel with energy star rated appliances and materials... for example some window manufacturers have energy star ratings, and the government will pay for something like half the cost of the window (material only).

There is alot of free money out there if you know where to look!
