Walker, How divercified are you with the skid steer? What I'm asking is what kind of attachments do you have for it? And can you make that baby boogie? Usually aroung here you can go to the towns and be put on their contractors bid list. Put small ads in local papers, send letters introducing yourself and what you can do with your equipment to local contractors. Well that'll keep ya busy for a while.

Municipal and commercial contracts can tie up your money for months sometimes. Unless you are prepared to spend a bunch of you own money at first I would steer clear, Maybe do 1 week a month for someone who can't pay right away. I would recommend the same as Joe. Add in local paper, talk to some small builders etc. I started when 24 yr. old and worked for just about anyone. Knocked on a lot of doors, left fliers at job site trailers. Word of mouth is best, but I had a good reputation already with some of the builders, and I had 8 years in the seat by then. So people thought I knew what I was doing. I still have most of em fooled!

Re: Finding Work With My JD5575 Skid Steer
You should have bought a Bobcat...they find your customers....no one asks for a skid steer...its always "can you bring your Bobcat?" Seriously, it takes some time to develope a customer base and referrals...so get out and meet people..there is no real shortcut, but here are a few ideas for you. If you have a grapple, there is a market for construction site clean-up and demo work. An auger is a very marketable tool also. Good luck.

Re: Finding Work With My JD5575 Skid Steer
Well....lets see....I bought my first Bobcat (the one in the avatar) because of all the concrete we pour and building pads we were doing. I have a 763G now, and have the grapple, auger, smooth bucket, and forks...and I use them all. I generally do not solicit work for the Bobcat, but I do take it out if called. Same for my backhoe and trencher.
Yesterday, on the way in from the job site, we were listening to Dave Ramsey hammer away at a guy who does construction, bought a dually and a skid steer, and Dave was telling his wife how dumb that was. Said you could rent far cheaper then own unless you could buy one for cash and worked it 30 hours a week or more. So I got to thinking about it...and I could probably rent and not own...but I would hate to drive 20 miles every time I wanted the Bobcat........
