Finding Work
Does anybody use a internet construcion search engine like www.bidclerk.com or the dodge reports to find work ?? I am looking for new ways to drum up some work. We are interested in bidding more commercial site work projects and I am kinda leary on spending the money to use them if they do not work too well.

Re: Finding Work
Rino,
We use reed bulletin and builders exchange. I like them because we have a plotter and can print plans at the office. Before the turn of the century I used to go around to the GC offices and print plans for 1.00 a sheet. It adds up. We save because we can prime bid civil projects with out buying a $100.00 set of plans. Of course there were a lot of contractors that we worked for that we did not get charged for copies, anyways I would say call reed construction data or dodge or the builders exchange and get set up with one of those 1 month trials, see how you like it. I can't imagine business without our membership.

Re: Finding Work
My brother was telling me that the dodge reports are going to be replaced locally by Isqft.com. He checked into it and the membership is $1500 per year.
He also claims that many GC's around here hire strictly from that website. I do not know how that will work in your area. thought I would share. As far as bidclerk, they appear to be the best deal. Can cancel anytime and only 50 bucks per month unlimited jobs. I wish I knew more about them. Would like to try it out sometime. Good Luck

Re: Finding Work
rino,
I find it's easiest to write on a piece of cardboard "looking for Work" and stand on a street corner. Than to use those reports.

![]() Rino, I dont currently use anything but we are just about to start using the Blue Book online and print version. We get a fair amount of solicitations from bidclerk and a freind of mine that does allot of commercial work said it wasnt worth it. He told me go with dodge reports and blue book.

Re: Finding Work
Thanks for the info guys. I e-mailed Reed and they called me back, but I wasn't home. I'll call them on Monday. I'll check into the other stuff too. We only need to land one big job. We definitely have too much iron sitting around rusting.

Re: Finding Work
Rino,
Another good thing to do is find a large general contractor that spits out bids on a lot of public work and ask them for invites. A lot of contractors around hear use ISQFT.com and you will be able to print plans, specs and addendums on all the projects they are looking at. Then you get a plan holders list and turn in numbers to everyone on the list you like.
