FH 220-LC Track Motor Hydraulic Pump Leaking

Please can someone help me out with some advice.

I have recently (today) bought a FH220-LC age 1996 and this has done 8800hours. The hydralic oil is leaking heavily from one of the track motor hydraulic pumps. Firstly I am looking to find out what is the best way to disassemble the unit to identify the leak and secondly if it is a seal on the hydraulic pump is this a relatively easy task to do??

I very much appreciate some valuble knowledge out there.

Regards
Si

I am not familiar with that particular machine, but my experience with Hydraulic pumps would say this one needs a rebuild, the seals should be internal.

But it could be a cracked, loose, or busted line. Till you can get in there and look at it, who knows.

Wish I could be of more assistance.

Good luck with it.

You might get some more responses if this was in the Excavation and Site Work area.

I'll see if I can get one of the Moderatorsto move it for you.

Not to be an arse, but why would you buy a machine with a leaky drive motor? Did you get a great deal?

Re: FH 220-LC Track Motor Hydraulic Pump Leaking

Hello High Land Gold,

Welcome to the site. I don't know we have had an excavator from Scotland before. I for one would like to hear how things are done over there. Their name is MacKay ???

My wife is of Scottish descent although she doesn't know much of the family history. Our nieghbors are here from Scotland, the wife is a traveling nurse and they move around the country. They seem to like it here and are looking at staying.

Your excavator, you said the "track motor hydraulic pumps" what you are describing sounds like the hydraulic motor for the drive? not the pump? The pumps should all be mounted on the pump drive behind the engine?

You then have a hydraulic motor that would be mounted on the chassis in a protective cover down at track height near the large track drive on the undercarriage. The hydraulic motor should just be a unit about 6" to 8" squarish in shape with hoses attached to it. If this is leaking badly it is seals, o-rings or split. This is a pain because this is a major hydraulic line at the lowest point of the machine and you can loose a lot of hydraulic oil at one time.

Maybe you could describe it more?
