Excavator Mounted Compaction: Static Roller Vs Vibratory Roller Or Plate

Which do you guys like for compaction of all types (cohesive clay, mixed, and grannular.) in hard to reach areas and/or trenches?

Looking for the best compaction, wain roy mount to our little Deere 35C ZTS (8k lb macine) and capability to mount to an 8-ton class (18k lbs) later.

Should pack an 18" minimum width.

Static wheel?
Powered viberatory padfoot roller?
Powered viberatory plate?

What brands do you like?

Re: Excavator Mounted Compaction: Static Roller Vs Vibratory Roller Or Plate

I have no experience with a hoe mounted sheepsfoot roller. We do have a hoe mounted vib plate. We only use it to compact around manholes and concrete boxes. For trenches we use a wireless remote control trench roller. Personally, I am not a fan of static compaction techniques, prolly cuz I have no experience with it.

We also have a hoe mounted vibratory plate, a Allied 8700 Ho-Pac. And the only experience with any type of roller is our Cat CS-563

This Ho-Pac will work on your machine just barely, but will be good when you upsize.

The specs:
9,000-30,000 lbs. recommended carrier weight
20 gpm minimum hydraulic flow
24" x 28" plate
910 lbs working weight.

Go to alliedcp.com to see other models

What year is your 563?? We have a CS-553 and it works great. It is a early 90's model. Not sure what exact year.

Re: Excavator Mounted Compaction: Static Roller Vs Vibratory Roller Or Plate

Our 563 is also early 90's, and I believe its a late 92 or early 93 model from what I can find out with the serial number.

We originally bought it a couple of years ago for one job with the intention of selling it after the job, and picked it up at a Ritchie Brothers auction. It had low hours and so far nothing has gone wrong with it yet, and works great. The reason we still have it, is it has been handy to have around and we bought it at a very good price, and it has a enclosed cab (something nice in the NW).

cohesive soils that are at optimum moisture, or 1-2 % below.....excavator mounted sheepsfoot...granulars or cohesives over optimum vibratory plate on excavator
