Excavation, Sitework Specific % Profit And Overhead
What type of work do you do? (Industrial, commercial, residential, utility, road work)
What area of country are you in? Do you have a specialty in that field or just general? What do you try to achieve as a % profit? What do you use as a % overhead? Do you charge these %'s against, labor, equipment, materials, subs, etc. ? Do you charge different prices for different customers? Do you charge enough? What is the biggest road block to being profitable? I put this forward for discussion to those who are in the excavation or sitework area of construction. Nick |

[QUOTE=denick]What type of work do you do? (Industrial, commercial, residential, utility, road work) Mostly Commerial Site Work, Subdivisions - utilities & streets, some residential to fill in
What area of country are you in? Midwest Do you have a specialty in that field or just general? general What do you try to achieve as a % profit? 15-20% What do you use as a % overhead? 16% Do you charge these %'s against, labor, equipment, materials, subs, etc. ? yes Do you charge different prices for different customers? yes Do you charge enough? yes, there is no sense in some of these "contractors" who undercut pricing to get the job & then can't break even. What is the biggest road block to being profitable? those "contractors" (note the quotes) who undercut every job I put this forward for discussion to those who are in the excavation or sitework area of construction. |

NW CT Do you have a specialty in that field or just general? Drainage problems. Difficult excavation. Rock. What do you try to achieve as a % profit? 10-15 What do you use as a % overhead? 20-30 Do you charge these %'s against, labor, equipment, materials, subs, etc. On everything Do you charge different prices for different customers. Not often Do you charge enough? Working hard on tracking job costs. Its getting much better. What is the biggest road block to being profitable? Owner and GC or other subs caused delays and changes.
