Equipment Lettering

What are your opinions on Lettering your equipment and trucks?

If you do, do you have a logo or just name and telephone #

Do you use job signs?

Just trucks?

Just Equipment?

What brnrfit do you get from doing it?

While I'm at it do you do something like T shirts, hats, sweat shirts as give aways? Who do you give them to?

This is talked about in the other forums but I wanted to see what people in this type work are doing.

Hey Nick,

When I had equipment, I had both the trucks and heavy equipment signed w/ph number. I have a dump trailer now and as soon as the weather warms up, I'll be lettering that too.

WHY? Its called FREE ADVERTISING. Unless you don't pay for any advertising at all, why not. When lettering your equipment, think about where it will be seen most. Your Back End. Not the doors, not the front. Who ever is behind you can read it, write it down and/or memorize it.

Another reason is for theft. It is alot easier to tell the police that it has my name on it, than its another Cat 315 or skid steer.

I also have a 14' enclosed cargo trailer that I have spent some time with thinking about exactly how I want it lettered, after all thats the size of a billboard! I'll be able to add to it, but I don't want to redo it.

I also use Job Site signs. If your customer allows, or here in certian counties, they are required with our license number on them, it is more free advertising.

I see so many contractors who operate in secret. You see the ladder racks, the load of lumber in the back of the pick up, but you don't know who or what they do. I even carry business cards with me all the time. If I overhear anyone talking about renovating, building or complaining about a problem with their home, I introduce myself and give them my card.

FYI: I do not do any advertising in the newspaper or yellow pages, I don't need too. I belong to the BlueBook for free and thats it.

Well there is my two cents.

Re: Equipment Lettering

the equipment/trailer decaling, we've yet to do on a steady basis....the t/shirt, sweatshirt thing, we spend a LOT of money on. give them to whoever wants em. we sponsor a couple of soft ball teams, etc. seems to work okay

Re: Equipment Lettering

i spent $400 to letter my truck and $100 and a 30 pack to a friend to come up with my Logo...I think it was $ well spent...It looks good and I recieve compliments where ever I go...I also notice people all the time checking out the truck when I'm on the road

When your first starting out I think its even more important to spend a little extra in this area

Haven't yet lettered my skid or trailer...but may down the road

Re: Equipment Lettering

Ofcourse letter your truck. Thats just common sense. I don't belive in listing 50 different services on the side of the truck though.

I've been meaning to get my cat 246b lettered. But when ever i have it on the trailer, the sign guy seems to be out of the job. I'll proably get the machine and my enclosed trailer lettered later this year.

Re: Equipment Lettering

I found a guy on Ebay that makes stick on logos. He made me some that are a skid steer with my name around it in a circle. Really work good. It was $24 for 4 of them. I put my phone no. on with letters from Walmart. Have them on both trucks and name ond no. on miniex. Probably have $60.00 into lettering both trucks.

I also use site signs and I advertise in the local paper and advertiser that is county wide.

I make up my own business cards on the computer and give them to everyone. I alos stick them up on every bulletin board I see.

I get the most business from the newspaper ad and referrals.

Re: Equipment Lettering

I have experimented with lettering and phone numbers on our 10 wheel dump trucks and on my 963 Bobcat. I have only had negative results on having the phone number on the dump trucks. People see the phone number and call and say you broke my windshield with a rock or something. The company name on the trucks is good for the dump to quickly identify you to start your paperwork. Putting the company name and phone # on the 963 Bobcat bared no fruit as far as leads for new business. I thought for sure when people saw the machine in transport on the freeway or grading on the job people would be calling for it.

Printing your own cards is expensive. That ink isn't cheep. What is cheep though is this place.

http://overnightprints.com

I have been using them for a few years now. Its cheaper than me printing my own and they are high quality cards. o for the UV protection.

The only reason I am plugging this company is to help you. But I wouldn't mind you telling them that LNG Contracting referred you. They should know (as you should also) where their business is coming from.

Which brings me to ask...Do you guys ask where the potential customer got your name from? If not, start and keep a record of it. Its the only way to track your advertising and if its a referral, you own them a Thank you.

Re: Equipment Lettering

We don't have lettering or logos on anything but our dumptruck. My dad doesn't like to advertise because most calls from it would be people kicking tires. All of our business is word of mouth.

As far as lettering and logos on equipment goes. I don't mind it if is done tastefully. I hate it when I see companys plaster their company name all over the machine and you can't even tell what brand machine it is.

Re: Equipment Lettering

All my equipment gets lettered, Pull the Deere of the boom and slap on Nuccio same with my Komatsu mini, my skid steer, track loader and my tow behind compressor. All my trucks get lettered and my roll-off box's. Also phone numbers and website on everything. All my guys get comy shirts and hats and when ever i am on a job with other subs or trades I give the guys my shirt and hats. I love it when I pull up to the transfer station to dump a roll-off and my compations drivers are wearing my shirts. I do some lawn sighs if it is my job but if I am a sub no signs on that project. I have gotting a couple jobs from people seeing my trucks and calling. Also with my name it is not to common and people all say they heard of me or seen me around.
